Prescription drug ads encourage people to be their own doctor— deciding on their own that they have [insert disease or condition] and that [drug name] will be the cure for their ills. Moreover, taking a pill is not necessarily the best or proper treatment for a disease or condition.

They’ve installed “watch this so you forget how much you’re buying” screens at the local gas pumps. It worked. Her symptoms were a low-grade fever on and off for a week, and a constant headache. The diagnosis? Severe dehydration. Ten hours and three units of saline solution later, she’s feeling better. Now I’ve gotta make sure she drinks enough fluids.
